Whitewater Rafting in Maine

Post date: Apr 7, 2015 1:45:04 PM

We will be whitewater rafting in Maine with Adventure Bound the weekend of May 2. They are located in Caratunk, ME. This is their website: http://www.adv-bound.com/.

We will depart Friday, May 1 around 5 PM (final depart time to be decided) and sleep at Adventure Bound grounds and then go whitewater rafting on Saturday, May 2. There are other activities to do after whitewater rafting such as rock climbing for example. We will depart for home on Sunday, May 3. The cost for the trip is $75 plus $15 for food, per person. If you are an adult and this is your first time on an overnight with the troop the cost is $65 plus $15 for food.

Adventure Bound offers whitewater rafting on two rivers the Kennebec and the Dead River. The Dead River has a minimum age requirement of 14 and the Kennebec River has a minimum age requirement of 10 years old. The choice of rivers we go on depends on the age and interests of the boys. Currently we are reserved for the Kennebec, final reservations will depend on who signs up.

To participate in the whitewater rafting experience requires demonstrated ability to pass the BSA swimmer test, this includes adults and scouts. If a Boy Scout or adult went to summer camp in 2014 and passed the BSA swimmer test then that satisfies the requirement. For those that need to demonstrate swimming ability the troop will be hosting swim testing Saturday April 11 and another date to be announced. More details on swim tests dates and times will be forthcoming.

Adventure Bound requires that a liability release form be completed for everyone on the trip, see attachment. Signups will be taken at the next troop meeting.

Yours in scouting,
