Cape Cod Camping & Bike Trip

Post date: Sep 24, 2014 1:52:31 PM

On Friday evening, October 10, we will drive down to Shawme-Crowell State Forest campground on scenic Cape Cod. We will spend two nights camping. Saturday, after breakfast at the campsite, we will spend the day biking the Cape Cod Canal bike path. This trip requires some additional preparation and logistics, the details of which will be provided in a separate notice.

We expect to accommodate several different levels of riding on this trip. The bike route from one end of the canal to the other and back is 17 miles which is a good distance for the intermediate level riders. Almost the entire route is on the bike path where there are no cars. You will be right on the canal to enjoy watching the boats, birds, fish and pass under the bridges where you can laugh at the people stuck in traffic way above you. We will plan a shorter route for less experienced riders. For the more adventurous we can go off the path for a longer ride to explore some of the areas around Bourne. (Last year’s older group of boys rode 35 miles). There will be something for everyone.

The Troop will provide a truck to transport the bikes from Bedford to the campground and back. Plan to load the bikes at the Troop Garage 7:00pm Thursday Oct 9th Be sure to inspect your bike to verify that it is in good riding condition (tires properly inflated, handlebars & seat tight brakes functional…) this week so that you have time to address any issues.

Permission slips are due Tuesday night Sept 30th. This trip requires a fair amount of advance planning so we need to finalize the headcount and get permission slips in early.
