Brownsea 22

Post date: Apr 29, 2015 4:50:04 PM

Scoutmaster's Note—Although the name is similar to the "Brownsea" area at Camp Wanocksett, this is an entirely different program. It is an advanced youth training course for scouts, First Class and above, who wish to prepare themselves for troop leadership (Patrol Leader, Asst Sr Patrol Leader, Sr Patrol Leader, and other troop officers). I ask scouts contemplating a week of Provo camp, please consider this program instead. The cost is less and the benefit to you and our troop is more.

Brownsea 22 ("Double-Two") will be held at Lone Tree Scout Reservation (Kingston, NH) from July 26 through August 1, 2015. Space is filling up fast. Troops wishing to send Scouts should do so quickly. Please make sure to use both the online registration and print and complete the Brownsea application form.

Course Description

What is Brownsea? It is a unique and exciting, hands on approach designed to teach youth leadership skills through the actual practice and use of Scout skills, with a concentration on camping, hiking, nature study, pioneering, and cooking. This course closely parallels the first Scout camp conducted by Lord Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting. This program places special emphasis on skills, teaching, and practice, the purposes of Scouting, and the role of the patrol method within the troop program.

The course is not done by classroom lecture, rather by programs of skill, leadership exercise, and patrol competition. Scouts who complete the program will have a better awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses for their personal leadership styles.
