Scout Skills Weekend–Update
Post date: Nov 18, 2013 5:48:43 PM
Our flagship campout of the year, Scout Skills Weekend was held November 22–24 at Camp Resolute, Bolton MA. We had excellent attendance from both Scouts and Webelos who joined us on Saturday for campcraft, games, a roasted turkey feast cooked in the great out-of-doors, and a warming campfire.
This year's class of Webelos proved to be a hardy bunch. After Friday's drizzle, the weather cleared overnight and Webelos were greeted with clearing skies and temperatures hovering in the mid-40s (F). The cool temps did nothing to slow down this crew! Morning activities were firebuilding, woodcraft including safe handling of the axe and crosscut saw, lashings, and cooking on an open fire and fried dough in a dutch oven. In the afternoon, Webelos participated in a pioneering project building two trebuchets, a map and compass skills game, and baking cinnamon apples in foil. Free time was filled with casual frisbee tossing.
Overnight the mercury dipped below 20ºF with some wind gusts. Daybreak revealed sunny skies with a light covering of snow frosting our camp site. Of eight attending, six intrepid Webelos earned special recognition for staying overnight:
- Nick B
- Caleb B
- Vince C
- Jon D
- Alvin G
- Joshua Y
These Webelos Scouts will be presented with a special Pack 194 Freeze-Out patch at their next pack meeting.
